With a sophisticated design aesthetic, this professional couple gave our design team a brief to create a contemporary home filled with light and showcasing beautiful timber on the facade. The result is a simple and beautiful home that blurs the lines between inside and out.
Many homes are all about looking outwards and capturing views. This house is different, it’s introspective, and the magic happens through a clever floor plan which creates an incredible central lightbox living space.
From the front facade, you notice the clean lines of the Matrix cladding around the garage, and a hint of what’s to come with the luxe blackbutt timber cladding behind the huge Norfolk pine tree in the front garden.
From the front door, the home remains private, with a simple hallway offering an ideal spot for the perfect artwork.
Around the corner and the home reveals itself. Expansive windows and large bi-fold doors are where walls would be, a large deck connects the front and rear wings of the house. You then you walk into the heart of the home. The open kitchen, dining and living space is like a lightbox, with extra high ceilings offering space for so much glass capturing the sunlight from the north and bouncing the light around the whole area and beyond to the rear deck.
This couple are all about fun and friendships, so a feature fireplace, rather than a TV, takes the central spot in the living room. Outside, the two decks and grassed area beyond offer plenty of room for entertaining and yard games. Finska, anyone?
The master bedroom is positioned at the rear of the home, private but still benefiting from the light streaming through the lightbox living room and to the deck adjoining the bedroom.
As well as spending time with friends, the homeowners love their outdoor adventures, so storage and a designated spot to shower off and hose down surfboards and fishing gear is provided in a nook on the middle deck with direct access to the garage.
Finally, a self-contained space for in-law accommodation is positioned at the front of the home, with a kitchenette, ensuite and cosy sitting area, with its own sundrenched north-facing terrace.
