An ocean-side oasis that sits perfectly in the landscape and keeps secret a multitude of technical building challenges of the site. This home was the 2014 winner of the Master Builder Association South East Region Custom Home.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
For this family with young children, an entertaining-friendly house that perfectly captured elevated views facing East to the ocean was top of the wish list. The house was to capture the ocean outlook from not only the kitchen and living areas but also the main bedroom.
This multi-level home was designed with views in mind, with a stunning large commercial picture frame window on the front façade looking out over the ocean and further large feature windows were placed in the upstairs sitting room off the main bedroom. Raked ceilings in the kitchen and living areas give an airy and open feel, while an open staircase with frameless glass handrails, and resort style ensuite finish the home off with style.
With a two-storey neighbouring house on the high side, a 3.5metre retaining wall was constructed on the boundary of this home. The proximity of the escarpment meant a significant amount of sub-surface water had to be dealt with. Extra care was taken with the materials for the polished concrete entry and front balcony, due to the distance from the concrete plant presenting a potential issue with quality of the concrete on arrival. Big sandstone boulders were discovered during excavation, and were used as features in the landscaping.
