One family, two kids, two businesses. With these stats, it was vital for this family to have a home with minimal maintenance so they could enjoy their time together. The ‘minimal maintenance’ idea doesn’t always play out well by the beachside, so our team got to work creating a gorgeous home that can withstand harsh coastal conditions for years to come.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
This young active family wanted a home that wouldn’t rob them of their weekends for maintenance, and would enable them to enjoy an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. They wished for a kitchen and living area on the ground floor with direct access to a big undercover outdoor living space.
North facing living areas allowed for great passive solar design, with cross-ventilation windows and doors. A modern rendered home, with no visible roof lines, was designed centred around a pool as an aesthetic feature of the house to enjoy from many rooms. Polished concrete floors and benchtops created a modern feel, with big open plan living spaces perfect for a young family.
An interesting thing about this build was that the pool was constructed first, and then the house was built around it. Lightweight Scyon Matrix cladding used to break and articulate the façade, and commercial glazing was used for the floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. Being close to the ocean, the house was built using corrosion-resistant materials.
