Custom building is about making use of the personality of your location and block. This site was screaming for an upstairs living space, so the design took it one step further by incorporating extensive indoor and outdoor living upstairs, with corner stacker doors for uninterrupted gazing out to sea.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
This family with teenage children wanted a great modern home to take full advantage of the ocean views offered by their site in Shellharbour.
The design turned things upside down for this home, placing the kitchen and living upstairs so this family could fully enjoy their ocean views. Both levels were designed with huge al fresco living zones including an expansive cantilevered roof over the upstairs balcony with timber soffits (ceiling). Large garage and storage areas were added to balance the design with supreme practicality.
The large cantilevered roof design required special consideration for the cornices inside, and extra engineering was required on upper floors to protect the large open areas downstairs. A silicon joint corner window on the north-eastern façade maximises the view, and frameless glass makes a feature out of the staircase rails.
