Although it boasts lovely design features, the most beautiful thing about this house is that it’s built on the block that was also home to the client’s grandmother, set high in the gorgeous leafy treetops of Keiraville. Now a flexible and modern base for a younger generation, this home will see the family story continue for generations to come in their custom designed modern 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom house with extra living space downstairs, a pool and outdoor entertaining area.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
The brief for this house epitomises modern family living; an indoor/outdoor feel, flexible extra living space, outdoor entertaining with a pool, and an open-style home office that is a pleasure to be in and doesn’t isolate family members. The serene easterly view over the leafy suburbs of Wollongong was also to be maximised.
Volume is the name of the game in this house. An expansive void created at the entry staircase not only draws the eye up but gives the upper level an airy feel, which is further enhanced with large sliding doors facing east to a balcony overlooking a vast leafy view. With all the family bedrooms on the upper level, along with the living areas, the sloping block is taken advantage of with the addition of a large rumpus/spare bedroom hybrid, with an accompanying bathroom.
Quite a steep block lends itself to custom design-and-build home, to best take advantage of the nuances of the site. The result here is a gently sloping drive to the entry, with the majority of the floorplan on the upper floor, which leads directly to the level of the backyard and pool. With sloping blocks when you get it right, it seems easy!
