We get more enquiries about this home than any other! When the homeowners came to us with a draft design, we knew this home would end up being a conversation-starter for all the right reasons. With a clear brief for what they wanted to achieve, this delightful couple have achieved a forever home that, as they say, they are happy to grow old in.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
When homeowners Michelle and Russell came to us with a to-scale pencil drawing of a concept for their new home on a block in Shell Cove, their priorities were clear – a ‘flipped’ layout allowing all living to take place upstairs, taking advantage of the sweeping views across the marina and out to sea. In addition, an exceptional indoor/outdoor flow was important. Altogether, the concept was to design a future-proofed home that would be liveable and enjoyable now and forever for this couple.
The homeowners had done a wonderful job of conceptualising their future home, so our role here was to refine the design and figure out how to make it come to fruition. We wanted to achieve a seamless indoor/outdoor flow for this couple, so on the front balcony we designed three spans of stacking doors and engineered the roof with no supporting posts meaning a completely unobstructed view can be enjoyed from under the cantilevered roofline. Along with the main bedroom on this level and the elevator, it’s almost all the living on one level.
A hard-working lower floor is home to an extended garage for storage and also dedicated secure caravan storage beyond. Two bedrooms, a rumpus room, bathroom and laundry complete this level. Up the stairs (or elevator!) the second level reveals a stunning open living/dining/kitchen with balconies at either end. The master bedroom with ensuite and robe also captures views across the marina and ocean.
The experience of the GN Williams team led us to a final result that is simply excellent. The team was always aware of the budget not getting out of hand and would give us alternative ways of doing things to stick to the budget. The only disappointing thing is that we're not seeing enough of the team anymore now that the house is finished. They were an absolute delight to work with the whole way through.Russell and Michelle Minto,
