There’s something special about memories of Aussie childhood holidays by the sea…salty hair, sandy toes, and endless sun. For the mum in this family of four, her beachside summers were spent in the Illawarra, and so sweet are her memories of that time that when the family decided a sea-change was in order, the northern suburbs of Wollongong was the obvious choice.
Most GN Williams homes, including this one, are built for between $500,000 and $1.5million.
An ‘off the shelf’ home design would never work for this unique family. Art teacher mum wished for an art studio at the front of the home, while dad wanted a workshop in the garage. The whole family wanted to be able to enjoy time together enjoying the vast coastal views from their elevated block, but also requested individual spaces for each person to retreat to. Sounds like bliss!
Much thought and collaboration took place between the family, our designers and builders to achieve a house that would function well into the future as the kids grow older. A living room sitting between the two child’s bedrooms means fantastic privacy but also space for the kids to relax with friends. The placement of windows was also considered extensively to ensure every opportunity for views and light was captured.
A split-level home with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms was meticulously designed over 4 levels to sit perfectly on this particular sloping block. This family loved the satisfaction of starting with a block of dirt and ending up with their finished product, and we certainly enjoyed working alongside them every step of the way to achieve this fantastic home.
